Why 35°? The angle your body already knows

For most of human history, we squatted. Here's what changes when your knees rise above your hips.

Sitting upright at 90° is a relatively new habit. For most of history, and still in much of the world, people relieved themselves in a squat.

In a squat, the angle between the rectum and anal canal opens up. The muscle that normally keeps things closed - the puborectalis - relaxes more fully, so less pushing is needed.

A posture of around 35° between your thighs and torso brings many of these benefits, without requiring you to crouch all the way down.

Hukōn is shaped to guide you gently into that posture, using the toilet you already have.
